TGG single crystal is the best magneto-optic material
for making Faraday rotators and isolators. Faraday rotators are composed of TGG
crystal rods and a specially designed magnet. The polarization direction of the
beam passing through the magneto-optical material will be deflected under the
action of the magnetic field, and its deflection direction is only related to
the direction of the magnetic field, but not to the propagation direction of
the beam. The optical isolator consists of a 45-degree deflection rotator and a
pair of 45-degree polarizers, which allow the beam to pass in only one
direction and block the reverse beam. TGG single crystal has a large
magneto-optical constant, high thermal conductivity, low optical loss and high
laser damage threshold, and is widely used in YAG lasers, tunable
gemstone-doped lasers and ring cavity lasers.
